Recognisable by its black and white stripes, the tiger mosquito is now established across most regions. Active during the day, it bites readily and can, in some cases, transmit diseases. The good news: a few simple steps greatly reduce its presence.
A mosquito that develops close to your home
Unlike other species, the tiger mosquito barely travels: it is born and bites within a few dozen metres. In other words, the breeding sites are often in your own garden. All it needs is a little standing water to lay eggs.

Removing breeding sites
This is the most effective action. Once a week:
- Empty saucers, buckets, watering cans, toys and tarps that hold water.
- Cover rainwater butts with mosquito netting.
- Maintain gutters and drains to prevent stagnation.
- Store away from the rain anything that can fill with water.
